CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Wednesday, the Coastal Bend Food Bank officially celebrated the grand opening of their new facility to the public.
For decades, it has worked to feed residents in 11 area counties and now, their capacity to do so has increased with the construction of a new facility that is five times bigger than where it has been.
Executive director Bea Hanson told 3NEWS it is a vision come true.
"We are open and that was the dream and now with this incredible building behind me we are going to produce so much more," Hanson said. "We will be able to reach out more and help people in a better way and we just have the ability now to do things we never did before."
Hanson also said staff at the food bank are working on a program exclusively for the elderly to help them not worry where their next meal will come from.
The new space is located on Bear Lane near Old Brownsville Road.
