CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Fire Department paid respects to one of their own, firefighter Mark Solis after his hard-fought battle with colon cancer.
Solis courageously served the Corpus Christi community for 23 years, working at Fire Stations #1, #3, #6, #10, and #14 throughout his career.
A rosary for Solis followed a visitation Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
Solis was laid to rest at Memory Gardens on Wednesday following a funeral service at Corpus Christi Fellowship located at 6602 South Staples Street.
CCFD Assistant Chief Billy Belyeu worked with Solis and shared that he was the type of person that brought a sense of calm, to every situation.
"He was very humorous and that's what made him special," Belyeu said. "You can have an apocalypse-type event going on, when you see Mark's face -- you know that when you see him, that everything's going to be alright. And if you don't think it's going to be alright, it's a matter of time before he brings that sense of calm to any room that he shows up in, any event that he shows up in."
Our thoughts and condolences got out to all his family and friends during this difficult time.
