CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A press release from Gov. Greg Abbott's website announced the governor is endorsing Bee County Sheriff Alden Southmayd for re-election.
The release provided a statement from Abbott about why he is endorsing the Bee County Sheriff.
“Sheriff Alden Southmayd is an exemplary conservative leader who works tirelessly to keep Texas a law-and-order state,” said Governor Abbott. “His tough-on-crime policies have helped ensure dangerous criminals are kept behind bars. Sheriff Alden Southmayd’s record of serving hardworking Texans of Bee County and upholding the rule of law is why I am proud to endorse him for his re-election bid.”
The Sheriff posted his reaction to the announcement on his Facebook page.
Republican candidates Randy Aguirre and Richard Cantu Jr. are also in the race for the position.
Whoever wins the Republican primary election on March 5, will be named Bee County's sheriff since there are no Democratic candidates.
