CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The woman accused of causing the deaths of two people and serious injury to another with reportedly driving drunk on the Harbor Bridge in 2022 was in court Wednesday as her case progresses.
The grand jury indicted Palacios on two counts of second degree felony manslaughter with a vehicle in the deaths of Betsy Mandujano and Mathew Banda, and third degree felony intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury after her car also hit and injured a third person Nov. 2, 2022.
Palacios' case is assigned to Judge David Klein's 148th District Court, but Wednesday's proceedings were moved to Judge Inna Klein's 214th District Court.
Mandujano's family attended the hearing as well as Banda's, which was wearing T-shirts with both their faces on them and their names on the back.
Neither family chose to speak after the proceedings.
Palacios is accused of driving while intoxicated after attending a celebratory party with other Flatiron/Dragados LLC employees following the announcement that construction on the new Harbor Bridge could resume after critical flaws were found in July 2022.
Palacios was arrested Nov. 13 after being released from a local hospital and has been in jail since.
She has been in court previously, requesting bond reductions which have been denied.
