CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Conditions along the Texas coast are not ideal for juvenile green sea turtles. Many are starting look for vegetation on jetty rocks. Thanks to high tides and strong waves, the sea turtles are being pushed into crevasses and restricted spaces. This causes the green sea turtles to get stuck, and can get pneumonia from inhaling water or develop infections from abrasions on their shells.
If you happen to see a green sea turtle that is trapped in the jetty rocks, report it by calling 1-866 TURTLE-5. Community members are asked to keep yourself safe and do not attempt to assist the turtle. Trained wildlife rescuers will respond to recover the turtle and evaluate it for any medical attention it may need.
