Happy Healthy Fair helps families prepare for school

One thousand backpacks were stuffed with school supplies and given out for free.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Parents were able to pick up backpacks, school supplies, sports physicals, immunizations and more at no cost at the Happy Health Fair at Miller High School.

This event has been going on for 18 years, sponsors like Driscoll Children's Hospital, Driscoll Health Plan, Reliant Energy and HEB pitched in to make a difference today.

LEAD First founder, Guy Nickleson, explained how all the services that were provided will help families be stress-free for the new school year.

"It's just a blessing to be able to service our community. That's what it's really all about, life is about giving back. Life is about touching the lives of other people and letting them know that there are people in the community that really do care about the families, about the kids being healthy and strong," Nickleson said.

Next year, organizers plan to make this event even bigger to make sure all kids in the Coastal Bend are ready to kick off the school year right!
