CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Athletic Club and American Heart Association teamed up at Whataburger Field Thursday for a special life-saving learning event as national CPR and AED awareness week comes to a close.
Organizers shared how many more lives could be saved by increasing CPR and AED education across the nation and right here at home with basic training.
American Heart Association Executive Director Erin Wilder told 3NEWS the campaign aims to teach, but also to highlight the importance of courage and willingness to step in during an emergency when every second counts.
"We're out here today to be able to spread the awareness so that we become a nation of lifesavers, right now we're a nation of bystanders," Wilder said. "We are really wanting to train people on hands-on CPR because if it's performed immediately it can double and triple the chances of survival."
She says if you find yourself in an emergency the most important things to remember are to call 9-1-1 and push fast.
