CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coastal Bend Food Bank and Corpus Christi IceRays are teaming up to "ice out" hunger!
On Thursday morning the hockey players ditched the rink and headed out to the food bank to help distribute items to residents.
Player Pierson Sobush said its the team's way to give back to the community that is always supporting them.
"We get a lot of support from the community, we get a lot of fans, we get great turnouts at our games, we have great sponsors and whatnot," Sobush said. "Locals are billet families, they host us, that's where we live, so any chance we get to come back and give back to the community or help out anybody, we like coming out and being here and helping for sure."
The food bank and IceRays will hold a food drive at their games on Oct. 18 and 19. They encourage fans in the community to donate, and if possible, volunteer!
IceRays officials said if you bring five nonperishable items on these days you get to get into the games for free!
