CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Island Italian Restaurant announced on Sunday that the last day of business at their current location will be Dec. 14.
Staff told 3NEWS they hope to rebuild and reopen soon-- saying they will miss their customers tremendously. The restaurant has bought land down the road next to Seashore Middle Academy. They plan to build a new location there in the coming years.
"We are building on 1.5 acres. We were lucky to be able to buy, just not sure how long it will take."
The news comes after more than 37 years of the restaurant's tenure, with the building's landlord reportedly selling the property to AEP, per the restaurant.
Island Italian said they hope to have their staff back once they reopen at the new location, but they are not sure when that will be, as expenses for the new build are likely to be high.
"We love all of our customers as they are like family to us. We will miss them all tremendously. We are part of their lives in more ways than just food."
