CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Friday, volunteers over at the VFW Hall in Calallen gathered to help organize holiday wreaths for the annual 'Wreaths for Fallen Heroes' event.
Students with the Veterans Memorial High School Coast Guard JROTC helped with sorting the artificial wreaths, fluffing the leaves and even replacing the bows as they get the decorations ready for the holidays.
The annual event places thousands of the wreaths on the graves of our nation's heroes at the Coastal Bend Veterans Cemetery for the Christmas season. The wreaths will be distributed on Dec. 14.
3NEWS spoke with some of those volunteers like students Lauren and Rylee.
"It's a bunch of hard work but it's always the end result that pays off and it's always worth it," Lauren said.
"Doing this makes you feel a lot better about yourself, you know you're helping others and just being, like knowing you're doing good for others and working for a good reason," Rylee added.
