CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department is warning Kia and Hyundai drivers as thefts of those vehicles are on the rise in the Coastal Bend.
The most commonly targeted models are those manufactured in 2022 or earlier with a key-start ignition.
Lieutenant Bryan Hagan warns that thieves aren't just on the hunt for those brands, but says anyone is at risk.
"We find that they walk down blocks and they're looking in vehicle windows," Hagan said. "If they try the door handle and they can get into that car they're looking for a quick grab, a quick steal, so anything you can do to protect yourself. If you like it, lock it."
He said if your car is broken into do not waste time and call police.
