CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — With the Fourth of July holiday right around the corner, many are likely looking to our area parks and lakes for places to celebrate with family.
Recent rainfall brought on by Tropical Storm Alberto helped quench the thirst of Lake Corpus Christi State Park.
Park Rangers say they saw four inches of rain, which brought the lake up just about that amount as well.
Park Superintendent Kelly Ann Malkowski told 3NEWS what that means for the park.
"Less of our shoreline is exposed and we've seen a huge greening effect," she said, "We were very dry and crunchy prior to the rain and now the park is green again! We're seeing new growth on some of our plant species and it's been really impactful for the wildlife, giving them more areas to drink and hide."
Malkowski says we aren't out of the woods just yet since lake levels are still low, which is something our 3NEWS weather team will continue to keep an eye on.
