CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Several community leaders gathered Wednesday night to celebrate an evening of education and igniting our future leaders at the LULAC Council No. 1 Scholarship Banquet.
The annual event held at the Omni downtown was filled with members of LULAC's founding chapter, which happens to be our chapter right here in Corpus Christi! They recognized trailblazers in our community, like Keynote Speaker Dr. Natalie Villarreal and many others who lift up our students.
The community showing up for our students is especially meaningful to Chapter President Dr. Nick Adame who spends countless hours dedicated to rewarding their hard work.
"For me, it's a labor of love," Adame said. "Every year the focus is scholarship, money, education. Lets see how we can help people go back to school."
This year's Feria de las Floras contestants were also recognized at the banquet. Feria de las Floras is a pageant honoring culture, education and powerful young women in our community.
The pageant will take place Saturday at Del Mar College's Richardson Auditorium. It's open to the public who may begin showing up at 5:30 p.m. to grab their seats for the show at 6:30 p.m.
