CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — I.B Magee Beach Park celebrated the grand reopening of its park building today.
They held a ribbon cutting ceremony with Nueces County Pct. 4 commissioner Brent Chesney.
Hurricane Harvey hit and destroyed the original park building leading to its near complete rebuilding.
Commissioner Chesney told 3NEWS that while the project wasn't completed as quickly as they originally intended, ultimately taking five years, it did stay on track and budget.
"This was a big day,” Chesney said. “You know, this was symbolic of how strong Port Aransas is. You know, Harvey devastated this community and we're still fighting the remnants of that, and this building is symbolic of that. It took us a long time to get it done, but we got it done. We stayed with it and we've got a beautiful new building we want the public to use."
While Chesney says most of the revenue for the area comes from RV's, his hope is for the new park building to be a public space for the community of Port Aransas.
