CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A man accused of killing another man in Flour Bluff last year was in court Tuesday requesting a continuance.
Eric Smith is charged with murder in the shooting death of Randy Thacker.
According to the arrest report, the shooting happened at 11:12 p.m. July 25, 2023, in the 1900 block of Flour Bluff Drive.
Smith told Corpus Christi Police Department officers that he shot Thacker after the 39-year-old came "towards him with an object in his hand."
Thacker died at a Corpus Christi hospital shortly after the shooting.
Thacker's mother was in the courtroom Wednesday, telling 3NEWS she drive 22 hours from Thacker's home state of West Virginia to be at the pre-trial hearing. She said her son and the now-55-year-old Smith were friends.
148th District Court Judge David Klein ultimately granted the defense's request for more time.
