Mayor's 4th of July Big Bang Celebration to kick off this week

There will be a full roster of events taking place at the Bayfront. Mayor Paulette Guajardo says the celebration is a community tradition.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — T-minus four days and counting until the annual Corpus Christi Mayor's 4th of July Big Bang Celebration-- and we started that countdown on Domingo Live this Sunday with a visit from Mayor Paulette Guajardo herself.

There will be a full roster of events throughout the day, all happening at the bayfront. From a fajita cook-off to a food truck festival and even a regatta in the marina, there will be several events to take part in ... all leading up to the big fireworks show at 9 p.m.

There will also be a free park-and-ride shuttle running from 11:30 a.m. until 30 minutes after the show.

Mayor Paulette Guajardo shared a few words about what this tradition means for the city of Corpus Christi.

"It's just a tradition. Every mayor, you know, has the big bang fireworks celebration. And it's for the community. It's for all of our families, our children. I went to it when I was a little girl, so very excited to have that come forth."

And a reminder--- you can park at City Hall or the county courthouse and catch a city bus to the heart of the party on Water Street.
