Motorcycle club hosts barbecue benefit to support Captain Luker's recovery

Today's benefit was hosted by the motorcycle club Blue Shield to help with any medical expenses.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A barbecue benefit was held at the Aransas Pass Civic Center Saturday in honor of Aransas Pass Police Captain Alvin Luker, who was hit by an SUV while riding his three-wheel motorcycle last month.

Luker suffered serious injuries including broken bones, internal damage and nerve damage.

Saturday's benefit was hosted by the motorcycle club Blue Shield, to help with any medical expenses.

The president of the club Rick Nichols, explained how important it is to share the road with motorcyclists to avoid future accidents.

"Whether it is one of our police officers or whether it is just a single individual it will be much appreciated if they are aware of motorcycles on the road, and they are just important as any other vehicle," said President of Blue Shield Motorcycle Club, Rick Nichols.

Luker's wife, Andrea Luker says the benefit will help with his long road to recovery.

"I just want to thank everyone so much for everything they've helped us with and the support, the phone calls, text messages, visiting and we just want to keep that going on," Luker said.

If you weren't able to head out to the barbecue benefit Saturday, a GoFundMe page is still up if you wish to help Captain Luker with his medical expenses.
