Letter carriers deliver supplies for nation's largest one-day food collection

President of the USPS Union Juan Muñoz said letter carriers see families struggling to feed themselves every day while working out in the communities they serve.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Mail-men and women from all over the country were picking up non-perishable food items and taking them back to the post office where they will be sorted and donated to food banks, including the one right here in the Coastal Bend.

This is the nation's largest one-day food collection, and all the food will be donated to the Coastal Bend Food Bank in Corpus Christi and local food pantries or churches in the surrounding Coastal Bend cities.

This year, they have picked up more donations compared to last year.

"It feels great, letter carriers are in the community every day, so we get to see firsthand families that are struggling to make ends need," said Juan Muñoz, president of the USPS Union in the Coastal Bend.

"We see them day in and day out so knowing that they're able to go to the food bank and get some of this food is very satisfying."

The organization decided to do the food drive during this time because during the summer the food bank tends to experience a low stock of food.

It was all for a good cause.
