CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Naval Air Station- Corpus Christi Fire and EMS cut a ceremonial ribbon for the newly renovated OLF Waldron Fire Station. according to a Facebook post from the fire station Wednesday.
The facility was originally scheduled for renovation in 2020 but the project came to a stop when the winter freeze caused catastrophic damage to the building. NASCC Fire and EMS said that the cold snap caused freezing water pipes to rupture and destroy a significant portion of the facility's interior.
The $2.5M renovation provided upgrades for the fire station, which was originally built in 1969 and last renovated in 1982.
Those initial renovations turned into the complete replacement of the electrical and HVAC systems, roof and floors. The upgrades also included the addition of a gym and a drive-thru stall.
The NASCC fire station says the newly renovated facility will provide a comfortable and modern workspace for firefighters to respond to airfield emergencies over the years.
