CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Saturday, at least 100 folks received free skateboards and helmets all thanks to The Skateboard Foundation. Their mission is to provide skateboards and the necessary safety equipment to younger generations to help them roll towards positive opportunities and a happier, healthier life.
3NEWS was able to catch up with Kylie Wooten a skateboarder and entrepreneur who said that this event event also provided a safe space for young girls to feel empowered to pick up a skate deck for the first time.
"Growing up as a girl skateboarder, we've never had that support and I feel like girl skateboarders in the industry are, like, super important because you have the support from other girls for little girls upcoming. And I just feel like it is so important for places that are not fortunate enough to get free skateboards or stuff like that," said Wooten.
