North Beach expecting new renovations soon

Corpus Christi City Council is set to discuss those project updates this Tuesday in their regularly scheduled city council meeting.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The North Beach area is expected to see some new improvements that could help bolster foot traffic on both a local and tourist level.

Corpus Christi City Council is set to discuss those project updates this Tuesday in their regularly scheduled city council meeting.

Corpus Christi District 1 Councilman Everett Roy said that North Beach is a hot topic this time of year, and that the slew of updates will only help strengthen that attraction.

"Fajitaville was purchased back in January and the hotel in front of it was purchased. So that's going to go through a renovation and the hotel is going to go through a renovation," he said.

Roy said that when it comes to convivence, residents will find a lot of it on North Beach.

"North Beach has a country feel, but at the same time it has a lot of amenities. There's restaurants and of course we can't forget about the Lexington and the aquarium," he said.

Jax Redline with Redline Helicopter Tours said the sky's the limit when it comes to expanding his service.

"Trying to bring the helicopter rides there. So when people are doing there other activities there and stay," he said.

With Spring Break crowds flocking to North Beach, Jax said there's a soaring potential.

"Especially this time of year, we are in the middle of Spring Break right now. So some days we'll break 50 rides. We'll just be cranking all day long," he said.

In the end, Roy said it's all about spreading the wealth.

"You know we put a lot of emphasis on downtown and some of the things we have done down there, but to be able to also do that in North Beach and kickstart the economy here, it'll be a good thing for businesses," he said.

Roy said that updates will also be made to improve the walkways down the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium to better accommodate those crowds.
