CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Election Day is just one week away and the last day to early vote is Friday.
That means that after Tuesday, you'll only have three more days to cast your vote.
Exactly 66,324 voters in Nueces County have cast their ballots during the first eight days of early voting. With there being 218,856 voters registered in the county, that means nearly 70 percent of registered voters still have yet to cast their ballot.
As of Monday, more than 5.9 million Texans have cast their ballot for the Nov. 5th General Election. That leaves about 67 percent of registered Texans to cast their votes.
Aside from the presidential, congressional and senate races, Nueces county voters have a stacked ballot waiting for them at their nearest polling location.
Voters can expect to see six mayoral candidates on the ballot: current mayor Paulette Guajardo, city councilman Michael Hunter, sociology professor Isabel Araiza, small business owner Joshua Fredrick, journeyman plumber Anthem Powers and business owner John Calkusic.
There are a whopping 25 candidates looking to fill only eight city council seats. There are 10 candidates running to fill the council's three at-large positions, including incumbent Jim Klein and current Dist. 3 councilman Roland Barrera.
Five candidates are running for the Dist. 1 seat including incumbent Everett Roy. Other candidates include Anthony Aquino, Billy Lerma, Eli McKay and John Garcia.
Only two candidates are running for Dist. 2's seat. Ben Molina is facing off against incumbent Sylvia Campos.
Current Dist. 3 councilman Roland Barrera is seeking an at-large seat, which leaves candidates Eric Cantu and Alberto Carrillo III to face off for the seat.
Councilman Dan Suckley will not be running for re-election to represent Dist. 4. Instead, May Nardone Mendoza, Kaylynn Paxson, Eric Magnusson IV and Dan Grimsbo are looking to represent the city's Island and Flour Bluff area.
Dist. 5 councilman Gil Hernandez is running for re-election and only faces one challenger David Pena.
There are a total of four county commissioner seats, but there will only be an election for the Pct. 1 commissioner. Incumbent Robert Hernandez has held the commissioner seat since 2011. Current city councilman at-large Mike Pusley is challenging Hernandez and looking to replace him Nov. 5th.
The county's district attorney's race is perhaps one of the more highly anticipated races. Republican candidate and current DA Jimmy Granberry is looking to keep his seat in the Nueces County Courthouse. He'll be facing off against Democratic challenger Terry Shamsie.
