CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —
Monday marked one year since the launch of the Harbor Bridge Task Force.
The joint team with Texas DPS, TxDOT and TABC was launched last year to help curb the number of injuries, crashes and deaths due to wrong-way drivers.
To mark the anniversary, Texas DPS released stats from the task force and the numbers are eye-opening.
In just one year, the task force conducted around 35,000 traffic stops on U.S. 181 with 453 narcotics arrests and 329 DWI's.
DPS officials said there continues to be incidents where Troopers are struck or nearly struck because drivers fail to move over or slow down. They additionally noted that drivers often pull into the left inside lane rather than the right outer lane which is also dangerous for law enforcement.
