CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Carroll High School students celebrated Black History Month with an African-rooted fashion show to kick off the start of the month.
The school's English and Journalism teacher, Thea Cain, is also the sponsor for the African American Culture Society. She says she started the fashion show nine years ago to encourage students to celebrate and appreciate African culture.
"Black History Month is a time to really open...broaden their horizons, so to speak," said Cain.
Carroll High School has events lined up all month, and the school says that they want students to come and participate.
The next event will showcase poetry and is set to take place during each lunch shift at the school on Feb. 9.
