CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — CORRECTION: CCPD previously had stated the person hit was a 17-year-old boy.
A student was hit by a vehicle while jaywalking across the street early Tuesday morning, according to Corpus Christi Police Department officials.
The student sustained minor injuries, and is expected to make a full recovery, according to Lt. Michael Pena with CCPD.
Authorities said the 17-year-old girl ran across the street diagonally, not in a crosswalk or at an intersection, when she ran into the vehicle.
Officers first got the call to respond to the crash at 8:03 a.m. along the intersection of Wooldridge Road and Wind Hollow Drive.
She was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
Multiple ambulances, police vehicles and a school bus were on scene following the accident.
Pena told our 3NEWS crew that the student might have been trying to reach the bus but could not confirm that information.
The department took the opportunity to remind pedestrians and cyclists to be aware of the rules of the road, and for drivers to exercise caution.
