Portland Fire Department holds first badge pinning ceremony since COVID

Asst. Fire Chief Thomas Pinder said that it was an honor to be pinned at the ceremony.

PORTLAND, Texas — Members of the Portland Fire Department received recognition for their hard work during a badge pinning ceremony Tuesday.

The ceremony took place at the fire station on Buddy Ganem Drive.

In total, there were eight new firefighters who finished their probation period and four firefighters who received promotions.

"I've been in the fire service over 20 years, been with Portland for a year," said Asst. Fire Chief Thomas Pinder. "Anytime we go to a different department, it's always a great ceremony.  It's an honor to be pinned, it's a dedication to the community we work with."

This was the first badge pinning ceremony for the department since the COVID pandemic three years ago.
