Rockport Film Festival rolls out the red carpet for filmmakers and enthusiasts

This weekend’s film festival will feature 42 independent films – 24 of them are from Texas.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Movie magic is underway in the city of Rockport. The 17th annual Rockport Film Festival is preparing for a busy weekend. The festival typically draws more than 1,600 attendees each year.

All screenings will be held at the Rockport Conference Center. There will also be an awards ceremony and brunch on Sunday hosted by the Rotary Club of Rockport. Sunday events are free and open to the public on a first-come, first serve basis.

The film festival will feature 42 independent films, 24 from Texas. The festival will also feature four international films.

An event of this magnitude appeals to a local, regional and statewide audience of filmmakers and enthusiasts.

Here’s what you can expect this weekend.

Vanessa Ormsby with the Rockport Center for the Arts said the films will be divided into several blocks.

“There’s a few 90 minute films you can see at different times," she said. "Then there’s also little, short films that we’ve put in a block and we’ve put seven of those together.”

Not only will the films cover a wide variety of topics, but the people who gather at this festival will be diverse as well.

“There’s just going to be a wide variety of people here that you can see and meet, these people are artists that are creating these films," she said. "It’s just going to be amazing.”

The Rockport Film Festival also gives back to the community by funding free and low-cost programs of the Rotary Club and Rockport Center of the Arts including humanitarian aid, youth education and scholarships.
