CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —
Last year, there were more than 58,000 children who were victims of abuse and neglect in Texas. Of those children, 164 died due to abuse.
One local woman spoke with 3NEWS about how she plans to help reduce those numbers through educating others.
Founded by Dr. Kristina Nelson, the Safety Compass Child Abuse Prevention Program provides education to families on how to prevent child abuse while also reducing the prevalence of human trafficking through skills training.
Every Friday in the month of October, the founder of Safety Compass, Dr. Nelson will be hosting a training session for parents and children between 6-8 years old.
The sessions will take place at Veterans Memorial High School from 6- 7:30 p.m.
This is an event you need to register for as there is a limit to 10 families per session. To register, click here. Families who register and complete the program will receive a $50 Amazon gift card.
For more information or questions regarding program you can visit the Safety Compass website, or call Dr. Nelson at 361-278-3597.
