CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Salvation Army had a few things to give away early Friday morning.
Cars were lined up around the building as community members waited to pick up free box fans and cases of water.
The nonprofit's goal is to provide some relief from the summer heat, especially for families without reliable air conditioning.
Last year they were able to give away 175 fans.
This year, they more than doubled that by giving away 360 box fans to the community.
The demand was so great that Monica Barrera with The Salvation Army told 3NEWS that they completely ran out of fans and water at around noon!
"Coming in this morning, the line was already started and so we are so excited to be here to help the community for those in need of the fans ahead of the hot summer months," Barrera said.
She said The Salvation Army was able to provide the fans thanks to generous donations from the community.
She hopes they will be able to do it again later this summer.
They plan to make an announcement about that on their Facebook page.
