Update on SH 361, Regional Parkway projects

According to State Rep. Todd Hunter, both projects are moving forward.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas Rep. Todd Hunter provided an update on the improvement plans for State Highway 361 which will widen the highway to four lanes from Park Road 22 to the ferry landing in Port Aransas.

He said things are looking good on the legal side for the expansion, now, it's about getting it into plans.

"You have to put them in plans just to make sure you can get the funding, but my concept is to get the funding as soon as possible in 2025 so they can start fixing 361," Hunter said.

A project already in the plans, the Regional Parkway project, will add an additional causeway to give drivers another option when making the trip from Corpus Christi to The Island.

The goal is to increase mobility from every day travel, to emergencies, even evacuations.

And although a location for the extra road has not yet been decided, Hunter said the project is on track.

"It's going according to time schedule," he said. "They've been doing the public input so that's in progress it's just a two-and-a-half year cycle. But we can't really shorten that one, but funding-wise we're in good shape."

There are more public input meetings set to take place leading up to TxDOT's decision for the location, so you still have time to voice an opinion.

Public comment is also available online.
