CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — City leaders and residents came together for the ribbon cutting of Surfside Park on North Beach Monday, a new and improved area for all to enjoy.
The new area includes a playground with shade structures, a parking facility, updated restrooms, barbecue access, tables and of course easy access to the beach.
City manager Peter Zanoni, told 3NEWS, it replaces an out of date area that had been around since the sixties!
The site has been elevated two feet to help fight heavy flooding in the area that is no stranger to it.
"Recent events we had like Tropical Storm Alberto and Beryl, this site was dry, around us there was water ponding but that's because the entire site was dry," Zanoni said. "That's because it's been elevated, the playground with a nice fall-zone and animals and wave climbing walls, all that was safe from these tidal surges that we had with the two most recent tropical storms."
The upgrades come four years after being approved in Bond 2020 and there are still more plans on the way for a linear park canal.
