CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Students from the Diocese of Corpus Christi were able to paint the day away on Saturday at the third annual Catholic Art Showcase at the Bishop Garriga Middle School Gymnasium.
This event was first started by Sister Maryland Springs in 2020. It allows students from all catholic schools in the diocese to cultivate a unique voice by submitting their works of art.
Elementary, middle and high school students were also able to explore and be inspired by various art forms.
Art is known to be a symbol of healing helping young artists overcome their fears of judgement.
Katie Cortinas, an art teacher at Bishop Garriga Middle School, said showcasing their work helps build the students' confidence.
"I think it's good to just give them the confidence and the accomplishment of able to just have their artwork shown and then if they decide to go through with their art and have it as a career then they can just keep on pursuing that," Cortinas said.
The event had a great turnout Saturday and soon a fan favorite award will be presented to the best art piece that was created!
