CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — CCPD officers spent Thursday morning working several accidents in the westbound lanes of Hwy. 358 near Kostoryz Road.
This marks at least the second day of significant multi-vehicle accidents on the highway this week.
A series of traffic accidents on SPID
At 7:41am, units were first dispatched to SPID in reference to a major vehicle crash.
When they arrived, CCPD officers found a three-vehicle wreck caused by heavy traffic in the area.
The department said those cars were following too closely to one another when one of the drivers- in an SUV-hit a pickup, causing that vehicle to strike the one in front of it.
Medics treated the at-fault driver at the scene. No other injuries were reported, and no citations were issued.
Less than an hour later, at 8:31 a.m., police officers were wrapping up the scene when they were alerted to another accident, which involved four vehicles.
No injuries have been reported yet, but preliminary information stated that the cars were once again following too closely to each other and failed to control their speed, which led to the collisions.
As officers were still working to clear the highway of the first two crashes, they were dispatched to third crash, another three-vehicle accident, this time at the 3100 block of Hwy. 358 westbound.
CCPD found that the driver of a pickup stopped for heavy traffic-- by this time there were multiple lane closures-- and they were hit by another truck that failed to control its speed.
After hitting the pickup that initially stopped for traffic, causing that pickup to strike another vehicle. The at-fault driver was issued a citation for failing to control their speed. Medics transported one driver to a local hospital with minor injuries.
