CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Opening statements for a kidnapping case that happened in 2021 were said on Wednesday.
Witnesses took the stand to recount what happened that day, including the Corpus Christi police officers who responded to the scene almost three years ago.
On June 8, 2021, an 18-year-old mother and her one-year-old little girl were kidnapped, thankfully found safe two days later.
Corpus Christi Police and US Marshals confirmed the kidnapper was the mother's ex-boyfriend, Kristian Garcia. At the time, he was arrested on a warrant for murder, aggravated robbery along with the two counts of kidnapping.
One officer on the stand said that the one-year-old daughter was taken without a choice.
"There was a child's bedroom, I noticed the door frame to that bedroom was broken," the officer said. "I knew it was a child's room based on the toys in there. I knew someone was taken and it wasn't by choice."
Garcia trial will continue throughout the week.
