CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — This November marks 24 years of daily deaths on Texas roadways.
In response to this alarming fact, TxDOT is joining forces with the Texas Department of Public Safety to try to 'end the streak.'
While the Department of Transportation focuses on what they can do to engineer safer roadways, DPS will work to enforce the laws that help keep people safe.
Troopers will also continue to educate the community on highway safety by handing out tip cards during traffic stops.
All of this in an effort to end roadway fatalities.
"Hopefully through education and partnership and outreach we can change behaviors and prevent deaths along our highways," DPS Sgt. Rob Mallory said. "We're going to need the public's help in order to accomplish another zero-fatality day here in the state of Texas."
Some of the tips on the cards that Troopers will be handing out include reminders to drive at safe speeds, wear a seat belt at all times, find a sober ride home and avoid any distractions while behind the wheel.
