CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A groundbreaking was held at the Hilltop Community Center on Leopard on Thursday, celebrating the beginning of renovations for the community space.
Many groups use the center for various activities like Zumba, sewing classes, WIC meetings and more.
Commissioner Robert Hernandez has been pushing to revitalize the space for some time now. He told 3NEWS it will be over $9 million of work, but says it will be worth it as the community will be able to enjoy it even more!
"They all ask me, 'when are y'all gonna get started, when is it gonna be done, we need it and it's about time somebody took advantage to get this done,'" Hernandez said. "Now that we have a little bit of money the community is excited about it, they are anxious to see it."
In addition to the residents using it, the Emergency Operations Command Center will also be moving into the building once it is finished!
