CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Aboard the USS Lexington the Veterans Band of Corpus Christi and the Miller High School NJROTC took part in the annual 'Salute to Our Veterans' event, honoring those who protected our freedoms by serving in the military this Veterans Day.
3NEWS caught up with one of the veterans honored, John Irving, to ask what the day of remembrance means to him.
"It's just a great honor to serve the country, and it's just a great honor that people recognize that serving the country is a great thing for this country," Irving said. "We are born free, we live here free, we as veterans and stuff, we will die free."
During Monday's ceremony a wreath was sent out to sea in remembrance of the men and woman who fought for our country.
