Vacant home catches on fire early Wednesday morning near downtown

AEP was called to the scene to isolate the power when a live wire fell from a line. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A housefire in downtown Corpus Christi is under investigation Wednesday morning after crews received a call saying that smoke and flames were coming from the home.

The blaze began at around 5:20 a.m. near Ramirez Street and Parks Alley. Fire Captain David Zarate told 3NEWS that the home was vacant at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.

AEP was called to the scene to isolate the power when a live wire fell from a line.

"We did have a one line that was live--came off the actual power line with the fire, so that was just something that we were precautionary [about], keeping our crews away so we can be safe as possible on scene." CCFD says there is no way to determine whether the cause of the fire was electrical or not at this time.

Zarate and his crews responded to another vacant housefire on Coleman Avenue and South Tancahua Street around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

"It's been one of those days- it's hot, humid, so we always consistently try to make sure that they are well hydrated...and be as safe as possible, so they can come out here and help the community and continue to fight the fires and put them out as best as possible."
