CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As we approach Veterans Day, the community gathered at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds on Thursday for the fourth annual Coastal Bend Field of Honor Ceremony.
The event is held each year to recognize the bravery and dedication of our service members.
Flour Bluff High School's NJROTC performed alongside the Veterans Band while 1,000 flags were placed in the shape of a cross, signaling to active military and veterans the community's appreciation for their sacrifices.
Director of Veterans and Social Services for Nueces County JJ De La Garza said that for veterans leaving the service, the transition can feel overwhelming or isolating, but help is available for anyone who needs it.
"We're here to bring Veterans hope and that's the whole purpose of the cross," he said. "You're not alone. We're here for you. We're here to provide those resources."
The flags will be up until Dec. 4th for the community to visit at all hours of the day.
Cerda encourages everyone to stop by the display that is even more beautiful at night to honor our area veterans.
