CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi City Manager Peter Zanoni told 3NEWS that Nueces County and the city are currently having early discussions about the future of the jointly run City-County Public Health District.
The latest separation, which was initiated by county officials, has already been pushed back twice, due to both entities needing more time to come up with two separate business models.
Zanoni said those discussions could potentially be in the city's favor.
"Just this week, assistant city manager Sony Peronel met with Nueces County Judge Scott and those negotiations are going well,” he said. “They're very favorable that the county will probably continue to buy services from the city for public health for Nueces County, which is a good thing."
Zanoni said services could be identical to what they were last fiscal year, adding that the city already has an exisiting relationship with the county that spans 30 years, and is familiar with the services that are provided.
