CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Denise Villalobos flipped the Texas House 34 seat after beating Solomon Ortiz Jr. in Tuesday night's race.
Republican heavy hitters such as County Judge Connie Scott joined Villalobos' family at the Railroad Seafood Co. in Calallen as results came in Tuesday night.
"When I called my campaign consultant, he actually said 'Denise, are you sure they didn't switch up the names?' " she told 3NEWS on Tuesday night. "This has been a David vs. Goliath race since the very beginning."
Villalobos was supported by Gov. Greg Abbott as he made multiple Corpus Christi appearances over the last few weeks.
The seat is currently held by Democrat Abel Herrero, who did not seek reelection.
