CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Students who are busy on the fields, the courts, or the tracks may not give as much thought to their mental health.
CCISD gathered more than 150 athletes from middle and high schools throughout the district for 360 Athletics.
This group helps students learn how to overcome obstacles and teach them leadership, all while keeping their mental health in mind.
"When I was growing up, we were told to suppress our feelings and to hustle and keep going and yes, that is true, but at the same time, these kids’ feelings need to be validated, and I think it’s important to not just share, but motivate, and say ‘Hey, I feel you. I hear you, but what are we gonna do to get you to the next level?" said 360 Athletics’ Coach Karla, who worked with students.
"It’s not always rainbows and sunshine, but when you step in an obstacle, it doesn't stop you from accomplishing your big dream,” said 360 Athletics’ Coach Josh Perez. “You gotta keep fighting, gotta keep pushing, and that was one of the challenges we did today. We had a great time and are thankful to be here."
Athletic directors hope students take today's lessons with them back to school and share with their fellow classmates and athletes how to lead each other down a better path.
