Corpus Christi Fire Department discusses city preparedness for Hurricane Beryl

Chief Wade said his department is preparing the Rescue and Recovery team should the need for it arise this hurricane season.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Officials with the City of Corpus Christi are closely monitoring Hurricane Beryl's path and making preparations to ensure the safety of citizens.

Corpus Christi Fire Chief Brandon Wade said that the city is constantly getting updates from the National Weather Service about the storm.

"Community messaging that is already going to start today in putting that out," he said. "Right now, I am not planning going door to door, but we are going to be using all of our communications. Meals on wheels, talking to the people they drop food off to."

Not to long ago, Tropical Storm Alberto flooded many parts of the Coastal Bend. Wade said that the City does have a response for when situations like this happen.

"As a city, we prepare our Emergency Operations Center to open up with key department stakeholders that would be part of the initial response and recovery," he said. "And then we start building the plans again for response, for recovery which is what we saw last time if there is damage assessment that needs to occur."

Wade said preparing your home is crucial to staying ahead of storms. Boarding up windows, securing your home and picking up sandbags are just some of the tips residents can use.
