Variety of Spring Break youth programs throughout the Coastal Bend

Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation is offering both indoor and outdoor activities to keep the kids busy.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — With Spring Break getting closer some families may be headed out of town, but we know there are many who will be searching for something for their children to do right here in the Coastal Bend.

Don't worry! There are still a number of camps and youth programs taking sign ups.

One of the Spring Break sessions hosted by the City is offering arts and crafts, sports and even food trucks for the entire family.

"You know it's important that we involve our youth, and we give them something to do," City of Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Director Robert Dodd said.

The Spark Spring Break Camp from March 11-15 at the Lindale Recreation Center, is first in line of the week-long youth programs that the city is offering for Spring Break.

"It's $25 per session," Dodd said. "We have a morning session and a afternoon session."

A variety of indoor and outdoor activities will take place during both sessions. Snacks and drinks will be given to those registered but other food options will be offered at the free STEAM Fun Program taking place on March 9.

"At Discover Dojo we'll have food trucks there as well, so you know the kids can come with their parents and their parents can eat while they're doing certain things," he said.

For kids who are looking for even more physical activities, there are camps for them as well.

"March 11 through the 14 — that's Monday through Thursday — we offer a four-day camp for youth basketball and a four-day camp for our youth volleyball as well and those will both be at the Corpus Christi Gym," Dodd said.

And for those that may live in areas outside of Corpus Christi, you are not forgotten about.

"For those kids that are enrolled in our After-Hour Kid Power, this will be ages 5 to 13, there will be two campsites during Spring Break, at Galvan Elementary and Wood River Elementary out in Calallen," he said.

As these are just some of the youth camps offered during Spring Break, it's best to research which program will be the best fit for your children.

"I'm really excited to go onto Parks and Rec and kind of figure out everything that the city's offering," local parent Meagen Clement said. "I know they've started doing a lot more for kids and families."

As many kids' minds start to wonder without plans in place, register your child while you can to get them excited about the new week to come.

"You know idle minds in idle times," Dodd said. "We keep them engaged, we keep them active, we keep them, you know, being part of a community and so I think it's important for this time."
