Rain forces Wreaths Across America pick-up event to move to Saturday

Organizers apologize for the short notice, but 'mother nature is not cooperating with us.'

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — You know how they say if you don't like the weather in South Texas, wait 5 minutes? Well, the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery is learning that the hard way.

The date for the Wreaths Across America pick-up event has been moved a third time, to Saturday after rain threatened to wash out the rescheduled Tuesday date.

"I apologize once again for the change of date, as mother nature is not cooperating with us this year!" wrote Nueces County Veterans Services Officer JJ de la Cerda on Friday. "Due to the rain forecasted next week, we have decided to move up the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery’s Wreath Pick up to tomorrow, Saturday, January 20, 2024 starting at 10am."

The pick-up originally was scheduled for Jan. 16, but Tuesday morning's freezing conditions postponed the event until this coming Tuesday, Jan. 23.

However, rain is expected Tuesday, so the event has again been moved to hold the event for safety reasons and to try and preserve the wreaths for use in the future, he write in the post.
