CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Nueces County Medical Examiners Office identified the man who was shot and killed by Corpus Christi Police Department officers overnight Tuesday at a Red Roof Inn near SPID and Nile Drive as Christopher Allen Smith.
Smith reportedly was firing shots from his room's poolside balcony when police were called. Police chief Michael Markle said his officers arrived at around 11:13 p.m., but by then, the man had already gone back into his room.
SWAT was dispatched and after officers tried to go to the room and bring Smith out, they said the 27-year-old crashed through a window at them.
It was then that Markle said his officers shot Smith.
Smith reportedly is not from Corpus Christi.
