CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — We all know of at least one place that feels like a home away from home for one reason or another.
For families of children undergoing medical care that can at times be difficult, but thanks to Ronald McDonald House Charities- South Texas families can breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to finding temporary housing while their loved ones are in the hospital.
On Friday night the nonprofit hosted one of their biggest fundraiser of the year, the 11th annual 'Men Who Cook!' It's a friendly, backyard cook-out style competition pitting teams against each other to serve up the best dish!
This year's event made a triumphant return back at the Ronald McDonald House itself for the first time since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
CEO Michelle Horine told 3NEWS, what it means to host this special event for the families there in its 11th year!
"I think what's so special about tonight is that our donors will walk through the Ronald McDonald House and they will be at the event with all 25 of our families who are living here today so it really does bring the mission to the forefront for the people who are here tonight,"
Senior Service Technician and tough contender Jessie Mercado said it's all about giving back and supporting others when they are facing difficult times.
"It's what we give back to the kids, it's not about us, it's about what we can contribute," Mercado said.
Our very own Leslie Adami, was this year's emcee.
