CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Rattlesnake Roundup is a tradition that spans generations here in South Texas.
First Edition reporter Madeline 'Ssssssalinas' joined us LIVE from Freer as city officials talked about what first-time festival guests can expect to see at the 59th annual event, which is set to take place Apr. 26-27.
Freer's Mayor Martin Martinez spoke about the festival's beginnings and said it will be an honor for him to represent the community this weekend.
"It's been an interesting... from a small group of family members, you know getting together to having individuals from all over the U.S. [come to the event]."
Freer Chamber of Commerce President Fernando Carballera said the roundup is not just about fun- though there will be plenty of that come Friday!
"We're a different type of vest here, it's more of a display, an educational series coming in."
Carballera assured us that there will also be tons of music at the roundup, including an opening day performance from Sandia and Ben Bolt high school mariachi groups, country music cover bands, and Corpus Christi-favorite, The Spazmatics!
