CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Jim Wells County Sheriff's Office is looking for two Alice men officials said were involved in a high-speed-chase-turned-shooting at around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The two men, Leve Villanueva and Estevan Mata, have been involved in an ongoing feud, according to Sheriff Daniel Bueno.
Villanueva and Mata reportedly began following each other on Highway 281 south of Alice into Jim Wells County on Wednesday afternoon, Bueno said, ramming into each other's vehicles.
Authorities said Mata was shot in the face after he used his car to run Villanueva off the highway and into a ditch.
That’s when Villanueva got out of his vehicle and began firing, eventually shooting Mata, who was taken to a local hospital and was later released.
Bueno said investigators believe Mata’s car windshield stopped the bullet from having a more serious, or even deadly, impact.
Villanueva reportedly fled the scene by catching a ride with someone else and was considered at-large after air-support specialists were unable to locate him.
A judge signed off on warrants to arrest both men Thursday for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges. Both of their bonds have been set to $100,000 each.
Bueno told 3NEWS his team assembled a task force whose goal is to find and arrest the two men.
"I suggest they turn themselves in, we’re going to be looking for them," he said.
Investigators did not say what lead to Wednesday’s argument.
