CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Local and area students and schools are being celebrated for their participation in this year's Share Your Christmas food drive.
Out of several area schools that participated, the Coastal Bend Food Bank awarded three for their above-and-beyond efforts.
Food bank executive director Bea Hanson said that teaching children to take the lead in helping others is an important part of growing up.
"They need to know how important it is that they help their community, and the difference that they make by helping other families," she said.
The food bank presented an $800 check to Alice’s Noonan Elementary School for taking the top prize, and the school's student council happily accepted the award Friday.
